Substantive: Economic Losses in Tort
This course will discuss issues related to pure economic loss in negligence actions, including for negligent misrepresentation, negligent performance of a service, negligent supply of goods and relational economic loss. Additionally, it will discuss business torts including intimidation, inducing breach of contract, conspiracy and interference with economic relations by unlawful means. A particular focus of attention in this course will be the interaction between the rights of injured parties to compensation, market competition, statutory regulation and constitutional rights.
Professionalism: Understanding the Rules of Professional Conduct
This portion of the course will focus on the overarching professional obligation of integrity, and how this has been manifested in recent cases about lawyer's professional duties, including Dore v. Bureau du Quebec and Groia v. Law Society of Upper Canada.
