Learning Objectives

The Employment Protection for Foreign Nationals Act, 2009 (EPFNA) applies to foreign nationals who work or are seeking work in Ontario pursuant to an immigration or foreign temporary employee program. For example, if you are working or looking for work in Ontario through the federal Temporary Foreign Worker Program, the EPFNA would likely apply.

In Ontario and some other jurisdictions, it is against the law to charge any fee to a foreign worker in seeking any employment. There have been incidents where serious actions have been reported against the representative, including  Paralegals, Immigration Consultants, and Recruiting Agencies when they charge fees for related services.

This seminar will cover the overview of relevant sections of the EPFNA, how to avoid such implications and remedies if a complaint is filed or charged.

This seminar will also cover areas of the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA), which are applied to a foreign national.
