The Modular Learning Model

The Clinical Sterilization and Device Reprocessing program is divided into five modules.

Individual Module Path (CPD): For hospital staff needing a refresher on MDRAO standards or specific sterilization tech.

or

Full Certificate Path: Five-module completion leads to the Professional Certificate.

Program Structure: The 5 Essential Pillars

Each module is meticulously crafted to be concise and thorough, focusing on the high-level skills required by modern healthcare facilities.

Module 1: Foundations of MDR and Infection Control

  • Focus: The "Why" behind the "How."

  • Content: This module introduces the role of the MDR Technician within the healthcare ecosystem. You will dive into microbiology, the chain of infection, and the principles of aseptic technique.

  • Key Skills: Understanding medical terminology, basic human anatomy, and identifying environmental hazards in a sterile processing department.

Module 2: Decontamination: Cleaning and Disinfection

  • Focus: The frontline of sterilization.

  • Content: Learn the rigorous protocols for manual and automated cleaning. This module covers the selection of detergents, the operation of ultrasonic cleaners and washer-disinfectors, and the critical use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Key Skills: Biohazard handling, chemical safety (WHMIS), and the meticulous disassembly of complex medical instruments.

Module 3: Identification and Assembly of Surgical Instrumentation

  • Focus: Precision and organization.

  • Content: Gain the ability to identify hundreds of surgical instruments, from basic scalpels to specialized orthopedic power tools. You will learn how to inspect for functionality and cleanliness while assembling specialized surgical trays.

  • Key Skills: Instrument classification, function testing, and the "set assembly" logic used in operating rooms.

Module 4: Sterilization Concepts and Quality Assurance

  • Focus: Mastery of the sterilization cycle.

  • Content: A deep dive into the science of sterilization. You will learn to operate steam autoclaves, hydrogen peroxide gas plasma, and other low-temperature methods. This module emphasizes the "validation" process to ensure every load is 100% sterile.

  • Key Skills: Interpreting biological and chemical indicators, documenting load records, and understanding CSA/ISO quality standards.

Module 5: Packaging, Sterile Storage and Distribution

  • Focus: Maintaining the "Chain of Sterility."

  • Content: Sterilization is only effective if the device remains sterile until use. Learn specialized wrapping techniques (envelope and square folds), container systems, and sterile storage environment requirements.

  • Key Skills: Inventory management, stock rotation (FIFO), and the logistics of distributing sterile supplies to various hospital departments.
