When Elena arrived in Vaughan last year, she brought ten years of experience as an architect from her home country. Despite her impressive portfolio, she found that Canadian firms required specific knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and local Project Coordination software that she hadn't used before.
She felt stuck in the "No Canadian Experience" loop until she discovered the Can-College Skills Matrix.
The Match: Elena identified that her architectural background mapped perfectly to the Construction Project Coordination Professional Certificate.
The First Step: Instead of committing to a two-year diploma, she started with Module 1: Construction Estimating and Quantity Surveying. At only $390, it was a low-risk way to learn how Canadian contractors calculate material costs.
The "Aha" Moment: By Module 4 (OHSA and Site Supervision), Elena learned the specific safety laws required on Ontario job sites. She realized her international experience was a massive asset once it was "translated" into the Canadian legal context.
The Result: Before she even finished all five modules, Elena added "Can-College Professional Training in OHSA and Project Scheduling" to her resume.
Today, Elena works for a major residential developer right here in Vaughan. She isn't just a drafter; she is a Project Coordinator managing timelines for a new housing community.
"Can-College didn't ask me to start over. They helped me take what I already knew and make it valuable for Ontario employers. The modular fees made it possible for me to study while working a part-time job to support my family." — Elena S.
